• Black Friday - love it or hate it?

Hmm. It is rare that we find ourselves on the same side of an argument as those giants of global retail, Walmart. Yet we were pleased to read of their subsidiary Asda's decision to pull back on their Back Friday promotions. This follows on from John Lewis's plea from last year that retailers should restrict the day's promotions to electrical goods only.  Continue reading

  • Grand Designs magazine: Eco hero feature

    Grand Designs feature Aug 2015

A big thanks to Grand Designs for selecting us for this ECO + DESIGN feature! Being a responsible business is very important to us both in terms of our practices and our products. We've won some awards in this area and continue to seek out and work with manufacturers that produce responsibly. The workshop that makes our contemporary Caspian range, featured in this article, is based in Croatia. We’ve worked hard with them to ensure that we have transparent, traceable certification. Our FSC COC number is proof that we can track the piece from forest to showroom to your home. Each piece in our Caspian collection has this FSC certification. Continue reading

  • Want a super flexible, gorgeous looking clothes organiser?

I like all the ingenious ways to organise storage on Pinterest but I don’t always have the time or materials at hand to create them. So when I found this really simple but very beautifully designed clothes storage unit from Denmark I immediately ordered it for the showrooms and also for myself. I have a small child’s room that requires some ingenious storage. This is perfect.

Introducing the super space saving wardrobe, Tojbox! This stylish wardrobe is the perfect small space clothes organiser. It’s described as nomadic by its Danish designer, Michael Daae, because he was moving around a lot when he designed it. He wanted something that was easy to assemble and useful. “I wanted to design a piece of furniture that was compatible with my nomadic lifestyle but still had a characteristic design. You just have to lean it against the wall where you want it.” Continue reading

  • How to tell if your furniture really is sustainable.

Does it matter you might ask? Yes it does! Sustainability is as important in the furniture industry as any other. Wood offers a wonderful sustainable resource which is much less damaging to the environment than metals or plastics. Timber is a beautiful, durable and renewable raw material, not to mention its environmental attributes. Yet wood is only sustainable if the forests are managed correctly. And then there are issues of workshop practices, transportation methods etc. You may well take pride in your home, and part of that is knowing your furniture is responsibly sourced. So if you're interested in this issue, here's how to get through the industry smokescreen and find out the truth!
